أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ هُبَيْرَةَ بْنِ يَرِيمَ قَالَ §خَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ وَعَلَيْهِ عِمَامَةٌ سَوْدَاءُ فَقَالَ

«لَقَدْ كَانَ فِيكُمْ بِالْأَمْسِ رَجُلٌ مَا سَبَقَهُ الْأَوَّلُونَ وَلَا يُدْرِكُهُ الْآخِرُونَ» وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «لَأُعْطِيَنَّ الرَّايَةَ غَدًا رَجُلًا يُحِبُّ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَيُحِبُّهُ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ» فَقَاتَلَ جِبْرِيلُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِيكَائِيلُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ثُمَّ لَا تُرَدُّ يَعْنِي رَايَتَهُ حَتَّى يَفْتَحَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ مَا تَرَكَ دِينَارًا وَلَا دِرْهَمًا إِلَّا سَبْعَمِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ أَخَذَهَا مِنْ عَطَائِهِ كَانَ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَبْتَاعَ بِهَا خَادِمًا لِأَهْلِهِ

Translation

✧ "Indeed, yesterday there was among you a man whom neither the first generations preceded nor will the later generations overtake." And the Messenger of God ﷺ said, "I will surely give the banner tomorrow to a man who loves God and His Messenger, and whom God and His Messenger love." So Gabriel fought on his right and Michael on his left; then his banner will not be turned back—meaning his banner—until God grants him victory. He left neither a dinar nor a dirham except seven hundred dirhams which he took from his stipend, intending to buy with them a servant for his family.
