أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَسْعُودُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنِ الْأَشْتَرِ قَالَ §كَانَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ يَضْرِبُ النَّاسَ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ قَالَ فَقَالَ

خَالِدٌ بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ فَأَصَبْنَا أَهْلَ بَيْتٍ قَدْ كَانُوا وَحَّدُوا فَقَالَ عَمَّارٌ «هَؤُلَاءِ قَدِ احْتَجَزُوا مِنَّا بِتَوْحِيدِهِمْ فَلَمْ أَلْتَفِتْ إِلَى قَوْلِ عَمَّارٍ» فَقَالَ عَمَّارٌ «أَمَا لَأُخْبِرَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَكَانِي إِلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا رَأَى أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ لَا يَنْتَصِرُ مِنِّي أَدْبَرَ وَعَيْنَاهُ تَدْمَعَانِ فَرَدَّهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ» ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا خَالِدُ «لَا تَسُبَّ عَمَّارًا فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ سَبَّ عَمَّارًا يَسُبَّهُ اللهُ وَمَنْ يَنْتَقِصْ عَمَّارًا يَنْتَقِصْهُ اللهُ وَمَنْ سَفَّهَ عَمَّارًا يُسَفِّهْهُ اللهُ» قَالَ خَالِدٌ «فَمَا مِنْ ذُنُوبِي شَيْءٌ أَخْوَفُ عِنْدِي مِنْ تَسْفِيهِي عَمَّارًا»

✧ Khalid said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me in a military expedition, and we came upon a household who had professed monotheism. Ammar said: 'These have protected themselves from us by their monotheism,' but I paid no attention to Ammar's words. Ammar said: 'I will certainly inform the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' When we arrived before him, Ammar complained about me. When he saw that the Prophet ﷺ would not take his side against me, he turned away with his eyes shedding tears, and the Prophet ﷺ called him back." Then he said: "O Khalid, do not revile Ammar, for whoever reviles Ammar, Allah reviles him; whoever belittles Ammar, Allah belittles him; and whoever treats Ammar as foolish, Allah treats him as foolish." Khalid said: "Of all my sins, I fear none more than my treating Ammar as foolish."
