✧ The Virtue of Abu Bakr and Umar

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْحَفْرِيُّ عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «بَيْنَمَا رَجُلٌ يَسُوقُ بَقَرَةً فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْكَبَهَا» فَقَالَتْ إِنَّا لَمْ نُخْلَقْ لِهَذَا إِنَّمَا خُلِقْنَا لِيُحْرَثَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ مَنْ حَوْلَهُ «سُبْحَانَ اللهِ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ» قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «آمَنْتُ بِهِ أَنَا وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَمَا هُمَا ثَمَّ» قَالَ «وَبَيْنَمَا رَجُلٌ فِي غَنَمٍ لَهُ فَجَاءَ الذِّئْبُ فَأَخَذَ شَاةً مِنْهَا فَتَبِعَهَا الرَّاعِي لِيَأْخُذَهَا» فَقَالَ الذِّئْبُ فَكَيْفَ تَصْنَعُ يَوْمَ السِّبَاعِ يَوْمَ لَا رَاعِيَ لَهَا غَيْرِي؟ فَقَالَ مَنْ حَوْلَهُ «سُبْحَانَ اللهِ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ» فَقَالَ «آمَنْتُ بِهِ أَنَا وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَمَا هُمَا ثَمَّ»

✧ From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said: "While a man was driving a cow, he wanted to ride it, and it said: 'We were not created for this; we were only created to be used for plowing.' Those around him said: 'Glory be to Allah! Glory be to Allah!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'I believe in it, and Abu Bakr and 'Umar, though they are not there.' He said: 'And while a man was among his sheep, a wolf came and took one of them. The shepherd followed it to retrieve it, and the wolf said: "How will you manage on the day of predators, the day when it has no shepherd but me?" Those around him said: "Glory be to Allah! Glory be to Allah!" He said: "I believe in it, and Abu Bakr and 'Umar, though they are not there."'"
