✧ The Virtues of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبِي عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ حَكِيمٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي مَرَضِهِ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ عَاصِبٌ رَأْسَهُ بِخِرْقَةٍ فَقَعَدَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ ثُمَّ حَمِدَ اللهَ ﷻ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنَ النَّاسِ أَمَنُّ عَلَيَّ بِنَفْسِهِ وَمَالِهِ مِنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ وَلَوْ كُنْتُ مُتَّخِذًا خَلِيلًا لَاتَّخَذْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ خَلِيلًا وَلَكِنْ خُلَّةُ الْإِسْلَامِ أَفْضَلُ سُدُّوا عَنِّي كُلَّ خَوْخَةٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ غَيْرَ خَوْخَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ»

Translation

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ came out during the illness in which he died, bandaging his head with a cloth, and sat on the minbar. Then he praised God ﷻ and extolled Him, then said, "Truly among people none has been more gracious to me with his self and his wealth than Abu Bakr b. Abi Quhafa. If I were to take a close friend, I would have taken Abu Bakr as a close friend, but the brotherhood of Islam is better. Close up every small door in the mosque except the small door of Abu Bakr."
