✧ The Command to Remember the Quran

أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زُرَيْعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ بِئْسَمَا لَأَحَدِهِمْ أَنْ يَقُولَ «نَسِيتُ آيَةَ كَيْتَ اسْتَذْكِرُوا الْقُرْآنَ فَإِنَّهُ أَسْرَعُ تَفَصِّيًا مِنْ صُدُورِ الرِّجَالِ مِنَ النَّعَمِ مِنْ عُقُلِهِ» وَقَفَهُ جَرِيرٌ

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ said: “How bad it is for one of them to say, ‘I forgot a verse of such-and-such.’ Recall the Qur’ān, for it slips away from the chests of men more quickly than a camel from its tether.” Jarīr treated it as mawqūf.
