✧ Seeking refuge from the harms of the grave

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ كَثِيرًا مَا يَدْعُو بِهَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ النَّارِ وَعَذَابِ النَّارِ وَفِتْنَةِ الْقَبْرِ وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَشَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْفَقْرِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْقَبْرِ اللهُمَّ اغْسِلْ خَطَايَايَ بِمَاءِ الثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ وَأَنْقِ قَلْبِي مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا أَنْقَيْتَ الثَّوْبَ الْأَبْيَضَ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ وَبَاعِدْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ خَطَايَايَ كَمَا بَاعَدْتَ بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكَسَلِ وَالْهَرَمِ وَالْمَأْثَمِ وَالْمَغْرَمِ»

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ often supplicated with these words: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Fire and the punishment of the Fire, and from the trial of the grave and the punishment of the grave, and from the evil of the trial of the Masih al-Dajjal, and from the evil of the trial of poverty, and from the evil of the trial of the grave. O Allah, wash away my sins with water of snow and hail, and cleanse my heart from sins as You cleansed the white garment from dirt, and distance between me and my sins as You distanced between the east and the west. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from laziness, senility, sin, and debt.”
