أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ قَالَ وَكَانَ مِنْ خِيَارِ أَهْلِ زَمَانِهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ أَبُو عُرْوَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَتَعَوَّذُ مِنَ الْمَغْرَمِ وَالْمَأْثَمِ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا أَكْثَرَ مَا تَتَعَوَّذُ مِنَ الْمَغْرَمِ قَالَ «إِنَّهُ مَنْ غَرِمَ حَدَّثَ فَكَذَبَ وَوَعَدَ فَأَخْلَفَ»

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to seek refuge from debt and sin. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, how often you seek refuge from debt!' He said, 'When a man is in debt, he speaks and lies, and promises and breaks his promise.'
