✧ The Most Merciful of those who show mercy

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مَرْوَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ كَيْسَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَازِمٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

كَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ صَبِيٌّ لَهُ فَجَعَلَ يَضُمُّ صَبِيَّهُ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَتَرْحَمُهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «فَاللهُ أَرْحَمُ بِكَ مِنْكَ بِهِ وَهُوَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ» اللَّفْظُ لِعُبَيْدِ اللهِ

✧ A man from the Ansar was with the Prophet ﷺ and he had a young child with him. He began to hug his child to himself, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do you show him mercy?” He said: “Yes, O Messenger of Allah.” He said: “Allah is more merciful to you than you are to him, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.” The wording is that of ‘Ubayd Allah.
