أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ قَالَ مَالِكٌ وَالْحَارِثُ بْنُ مِسْكِينٍ قِرَاءَةً عَلَيْهِ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَاهُ يَقُولُ اعْتَلَّ أَبِي سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ فَنَزَعَ جُبَّةً كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَامِرُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ يَنْظُرُ وَكَانَ سَهْلٌ رَجُلًا أَبْيَضَ حَسَنَ الْجِلْدِ فَقَالَ

لَهُ عَامِرٌ مَا رَأَيْتُ كَالْيَوْمِ وَلَا عَذْرَاءَ فَوُعِكَ سَهْلٌ مَكَانَهُ فَاشْتَدَّ وَعْكُهُ فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ سَهْلًا وُعِكَ وَأَنَّهُ غَيْرُ قَادِرٍ أَنْ يَرْفَعَ رَأْسَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَأَتَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَهُ سَهْلٌ بِالَّذِي كَانَ مِنْ شَأْنِ عَامِرٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «عَلَامَ يَقْتُلُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَخَاهَ؟» فِي حَدِيثِ الْحَارِثِ «أَلَا بَرَّكْتَ؟ إِنَّ الْعَيْنَ حَقٌّ تَوَضَّأْ» فَرَاحَ سَهْلٌ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْسَ بِهِ بَأْسٌ

Translation

✧ Amir said to him, “I have never seen anything like today, nor a veiled maiden.” Sahl was immediately stricken with a severe fever. He went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him that Sahl had fallen ill and could not raise his head. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to him, and Sahl told him what had happened with Amir. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Why would one of you kill his brother? Should you not have invoked blessing? The evil eye is real. Perform ablution.” Sahl then went with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with no harm.
