أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً سَرَقَتْ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةِ الْفَتْحِ مُرْسَلٌ فَفَزِعَ قَوْمُهَا إِلَى أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ يَسْتَشْفِعُونَ بِهِ قَالَ عُرْوَةُ فَلَمَّا كَلَّمَهُ أُسَامَةُ فِيهَا تَلَوَّنَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «تُكَلِّمُنِي فِي حَدٍّ مِنْ حُدُودِ اللهِ؟» قَالَ أُسَامَةُ اسْتَغْفِرْ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَلَمَّا كَانَ الْعَشِيُّ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَطِيبًا فَأَثْنَى عَلَى اللهِ بِمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ الَّذِينَ قَبْلَكُمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا إِذَا سَرَقَ فِيهِمُ الشَّرِيفُ تَرَكُوهُ وَإِذَا سَرَقَ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفُ أَقَامُوا عَلَيْهِ الْحَدَّ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَوْ أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ مُحَمَّدٍ سَرَقَتْ لَقَطَعْتُ يَدَهَا» ثُمَّ أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِتِلْكَ الْمَرْأَةِ فَقُطِعَتْ فَحَسُنَتْ تَوْبَتُهَا بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَكَانَتْ تَأْتِي بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَأَرْفَعُ حَاجَتَهَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

✧ A woman stole during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the campaign of the Conquest—mursal. Her people went in alarm to Usama b. Zayd to seek his intercession. Urwa said: When Usama spoke to him about her, the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed color, and he said, "Do you speak to me regarding one of the limits set by Allah?" Usama said, "Ask forgiveness for me, O Messenger of Allah." When evening came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood as a preacher, praised Allah as He deserves, and then said, "To proceed: those before you were destroyed only because when a noble person among them stole, they left him alone, but when a weak person among them stole, they carried out the punishment on him. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, if Fatima bt. Muhammad were to steal, I would cut off her hand." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that woman, and her hand was cut off. Her repentance was good after that. Aisha said: After that, she would come to me, and I would raise her need to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
