أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ
كَانَ بَيْنَ أَبْيَاتِنَا رَجُلٌ ضَرِيرُ الْجَسَدِ فَلَمْ يَرُعْ أَهْلُ الدَّارِ إِلَّا وَهُوَ عَلَى يَعْنِي جَارِيَةً مِنْ جَوَارِي الدَّارِ يَفْجُرُ بِهَا فَرَفَعَ سَعْدٌ شَأْنَهُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اضْرِبُوهُ حَدَّهُ» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ ضَرَبْنَاهُ قَتَلْنَاهُ هُوَ أَضْعَفُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ «فَخُذُوا عِثْكَالًا فِيهِ مِائَةُ شِمْرَاخٍ فَاضْرِبُوهُ بِهَا ضَرْبَةً وَاحِدَةً» فَفَعَلُوا

✧ There was among our households a man with a weak body. The people of the house were startled only when he was upon, meaning, a slave girl from the slave girls of the house, committing adultery with her. Sa'd raised his matter to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Inflict the prescribed punishment on him." They said: O Messenger of Allah, if we flog him, we will kill him; he is weaker than that. He said: "Take a palm branch with a hundred stalks and strike him with it once." So they did.
