✧ The Imam's Residence in Addressing the People of the Book When They Resort to Him.

أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبِ بْنِ عَرَبِيٍّ مِنْ كِتَابِهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ لَمَّا رُفِعَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَا تَجِدُونَ فِي كِتَابِكُمْ؟» قَالُوا لَا نَجِدُ الرَّجْمَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَلَامٍ كَذَبُوا الرَّجْمُ فِي كِتَابِهِمْ فَقِيلَ ائْتُوا بِالتَّوْرَاةِ فَاتْلُوهَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ فَجَاءُوا بِالتَّوْرَاةِ وَجَاءَ قَارِئِهُمْ فَجَعَلَ كَفَّهُ عَلَى مَوْضِعِ الرَّجْمِ فَجَعَلَ يَقْرَأُ مَا خَلَا ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَلَامٍ «أَزْحِلْ كَفَّكَ فَإِذَا هُوَ بِالرَّجْمِ يَلُوحُ فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِهِمَا فَرُجِمَا»

✧ He narrated to him that when they were brought to the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "What do you find in your Book?" They said, "We do not find stoning." Abdullah b. Salam said, "They lie; stoning is in their Book." It was said, "Bring the Torah and recite it if you are truthful." They brought the Torah and their reader came. He placed his palm over the place of stoning and began to read what was besides that. Abdullah b. Salam said to him, "Move your palm away." And there was the stoning, shining. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that they be stoned, and they were stoned.
