أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ عَزْرَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ الْعُرَنِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ نُضَيْلَةَ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ
قَالَ أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ «يُجْلَدُونَ وَيُرْجَمُونَ وَيُرْجَمُونَ وَلَا يُجْلَدُونَ وَيُجْلَدُونَ وَلَا يُرْجَمُونَ» فَفَسَّرَهُ قَتَادَةُ الشَّيْخُ الْمُحْصَنُ إِذَا زَنَا يُجْلَدُ ثُمَّ يُرْجَمُ وَالشَّابُّ الْمُحْصَنُ يُرْجَمُ إِذَا زَنَا وَالشَّابُّ الَّذِي لَمْ يُحْصَنْ يُجْلَدْ

✧ Ubayy b. Kaʿb said: “They are flogged and stoned; they are stoned and not flogged; and they are flogged and not stoned.” Qatādah explained it: The married old man, if he commits adultery, is flogged then stoned. The married young man is stoned if he commits adultery. The young man who is not married is flogged.
