أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَعْلَى عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ قَالَ

غَزَوْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ جَيْشَ الْعُسْرَةِ وَكَانَ أَوْثَقَ أَعْمَالِي فِي نَفْسِي وَكَانَ لِي أَجِيرٌ فَقَاتَلَ إِنْسَانًا فَعَضَّ أَحَدُهُمَا إِصْبَعَ صَاحِبِهِ فَانْتَزَعَ إِصْبَعَهُ فَأَنْدَرَ ثَنِيَّتَهُ فَسَقَطَتْ فَانْطَلَقَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَهْدَرَ ثَنِيَّتَهُ وَقَالَ «أَفَيَدَعُ يَدَهُ فِي فِيكَ تَقْضَمُهَا؟»

✧ I raided with the Messenger of Allah in the army of hardship, and it was the most reliable of my deeds in my estimation. I had a worker, and he fought a person; one of them bit the finger of his companion, and he pulled his finger out and knocked out his front tooth, and it fell out. He went to the Prophet ﷺ, and he declared the tooth void and said: "Should he leave his hand in your mouth for you to bite it?"
