أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ سَلَّامُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَنَزَلْنَا مَنْزِلًا فَأَصَابَ النَّاسُ ضِبَابًا فَأَخَذْتُ مِنْهَا ضَبًّا فَشَوَيْتُهُ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَخَذَ عُودًا فَعَدَّ بِهِ أَصَابِعَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِنَّ أُمَّةً مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مُسِخَتْ دَوَابًّا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَإِنِّي لَا أَدْرِي أَيُّ الدَّوَابِّ هِيَ؟» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ أَكَلُوا مِنْهَا قَالَ فَمَا أَمَرَ بِأَكْلِهَا وَلَا نَهَى 6618 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سَيْفٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيُّ عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ وَدِيعَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةِ خَيْبَرَ فَأَصَبْنَا ضِبَابًا وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ

Translation

✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey. We stopped at a place, and the people caught some dabbs (lizards). I took one of them and roasted it, then brought it to the Prophet ﷺ. He took a stick and counted its toes with it, then said: "A nation of the Children of Israel was transformed into creatures on the earth, and I do not know which of the creatures it is." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, the people have eaten from them." He did not command eating them nor forbid it. 6618 Abu Dawud Sulayman b. Sayf informed us, he said: Muhammad b. Sulayman al-Harrani narrated to us, he said: Abu Ja'far al-Razi narrated to us, from Husayn b. 'Abd al-Rahman, from Zayd b. Wahb, from Thabit b. Yazid b. Wadi'ah al-Ansari, who said: We were with the Prophet ﷺ in the battle of Khaybar, and we caught some dabbs (lizards), and he narrated the hadith.
