أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الْمَكِّيُّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَوْسِ بْنِ الْحَدَثَانِ قَالَ

قَالَ عُمَرُ لِعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَسَعْدٍ وَعُثْمَانَ وَطَلْحَةَ وَالزُّبَيْرِ أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللهِ الَّذِي قَامَتْ لَهُ السَّمَوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ سَمِعْتُمُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ لَا نُورَثُ مَا تَرَكْنَا فَهُوَ صَدَقَةٌ»؟ قَالُوا اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ

✧ ʿUmar said to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, Saʿd, ʿUthmān, Ṭalḥa, and al-Zubayr: I adjure you by God, by whom the heavens and the earth stand, did you hear the Prophet ﷺ say: «We, the company of prophets, are not inherited; what we leave is charity»? They said: O God, yes.
