أَخْبَرَنِي هِلَالُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ الرَّقِّيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ يَعْنِي وَهُوَ الْجَرْجَرَائِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ وَيُونُسَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَوْسِ بْنِ الْحَدَثَانِ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا نُورَثُ مَا تَرَكْنَا صَدَقَةٌ» قَالَ وَقَالَ لِعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَطَلْحَةَ وَسَعْدٍ وَعَلِيٍّ نَشَدْتُكُمْ بِاللهِ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَا نُورَثُ مَا تَرَكْنَا صَدَقَةٌ؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said: «We are not inherited; what we leave is charity.» He said: And he said to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, Ṭalḥa, Saʿd, and ʿAlī: I adjure you by God, do you know that the Messenger of God ﷺ said: We are not inherited; what we leave is charity? They said: Yes.
