✧ Selling what the seller does not have

أَخْبَرَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بِشْرٍ عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مَاهِكٍ عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ قَالَ

سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ يَأْتِينِي الرَّجُلُ يَسْأَلُنِي البَيْعَ لَيْسَ عِنْدِي أَبِيعُهُ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ أَبْتَاعُهُ لَهُ مِنَ السُّوقِ؟ فَقَالَ «لَا تَبِعْ مَا لَيْسَ عِنْدَكَ»

✧ I asked the Prophet ﷺ: O Messenger of Allah, a man comes to me asking me to sell [something] I do not have, [so] I sell it to him then buy it for him from the market. He said: «Do not sell what you do not have.»
