✧ What should one do if they forget something from their prayer?

أَخْبَرَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ اللَّيْثِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَجْلَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ مَوْلَى عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ صَلَّى أَمَامَهُمْ فَقَامَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَعَلَيْهِ جُلُوسٌ فَسَبِّحَ النَّاسُ فَتَمَّ عَلَى قِيَامِهِ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ بِنَا سَجْدَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ بَعْدَ أَنْ أَتَمَّ الصَّلَاةَ ثُمَّ قَعَدَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ نَسِيَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ شَيْئًا فَلْيَسْجُدْ مِثْلَ هَاتَيْنِ السَّجْدَتَيْنِ»

Translation

✧ Mu‘āwiyah prayed before them and stood up in the prayer when sitting was due. The people said subḥān Allāh, but he continued with his standing. Then he prostrated with us twice while sitting after he completed the prayer. Then he sat on the pulpit and said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Whoever forgets something from his prayer, let him prostrate like these two prostrations.’”
