أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ أَنَّ زِيَادَ بْنَ عِلَاقَةَ حَدَّثَهُمْ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ شَرِيكٍ يَقُولُ «أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَإِذَا أَصْحَابُهُ عِنْدَهُ كَأَنَّ عَلَى رُءُوسِهِمُ الطَّيْرُ»

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Ismāʿīl b. Masʿūd
  2. Khālid
  3. Shuʿbah
  4. Ziyād b. ʿIlāqah
  5. Usāmah b. Sharīk

I heard Usama bin Sharik saying: I came to the Prophet ﷺ, and his companions we as if they birds were perched on their heads (i.e. they were still and attentive).
