أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ يُونُسَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ قَالَ عِيسَى وَكَانَ الْوَلِيدُ ثِقَةً فِي الْحَدِيثِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ وَعَمْرٍو ابْنَيْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ أَنَّ سُفْيَانَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ وَجَدَ عَيْبَةً فَأَتَى بِهَا عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ

عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً فَإِنْ عُرِفَتْ فَذَلِكَ وَإِلَّا فَهِيَ لَكَ فَلَمْ تُعْرَفْ فَلَقِيتُهُ مِنَ الْعَامِ الْمُقْبِلِ مِنَ الْمَوْسِمِ فَذَكَرْتُهَا لَهُ فَقَالَ هِيَ لَكَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ «أَمَرَنَا بِذَلِكَ» قَالَ لَا حَاجَةَ لِي بِهَا فَقَبَضَهَا عُمَرُ وَجَعَلَهَا فِي بَيْتِ الْمَالِ

✧ I found a purse in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I brought it to him. He said: “Announce it for a year. If it is recognized, fine; otherwise, it is yours.” It was not recognized, so I met him in the following year during the pilgrimage season and mentioned it to him. He said: “It is yours. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to do this.” I said: “I have no need of it.” So Umar took it and placed it in the public treasury.
