أَخْبَرَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ دَلُّوَيْهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ قَذَفَ رَجُلٌ امْرَأَتَهُ فَقَالَ

فَرَّقَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ أَخَوَيْ بَنِي الْعَجْلَانِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمَا كَاذِبٌ فَهَلْ مِنْكُمَا تَائِبٌ» قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا فَأَبَيَا فَفَرَّقَ بَيْنَهُمَا قَالَ أَيُّوبُ وَقَالَ لِي عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ إِنَّ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ شَيْئًا لَا أَرَاكَ تُحَدِّثُ بِهِ قَالَ قَالَ الرَّجُلُ مَالِي قَالَ لَا مَالَ لَكَ إِنْ كُنْتَ صَادِقًا فَقَدْ دَخَلْتَ بِهَا وَإِنْ كُنْتَ كَاذِبًا فَهِيَ أَبَعْدُ مِنْكَ

Translation

✧ The Prophet of Allah ﷺ separated between the two brothers of Banu al-Ajlan, then said: 'Allah knows best that one of you two is lying. Is there any of you two who will repent?' He said it three times, but they both refused, so he separated between them. Ayyub said: Amr b. Dinar said to me: In this hadith there is something I do not see you narrating. He said: The man said: What about my property? He said: You have no property. If you are truthful, you have consummated the marriage with her; and if you are lying, she is even further from you.
