أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ هُوَ ابْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّهَا أَرَادَتْ

أَنْ تَشْتَرِيَ بَرِيرَةَ فَاشْتَرَطُوا وَلَاءَهَا فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «اشْتَرِيهَا فَأَعْتِقِيهَا فَإِنَّ الْوَلَاءَ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ» وَأُتِيَ بِلَحْمٍ فَقِيلَ إِنَّ هَذَا مِمَّا تُصُدِّقَ بِهِ عَلَى بَرِيرَةَ فَقَالَ «هُوَ لَهَا صَدَقَةٌ وَلَنَا هَدِيَّةٌ» وَخَيَّرَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَكَانَ زَوْجُهَا حُرًّا

  12. Barīrah

✧ To buy Barirah, but they stipulated her wala. I mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, “Buy her and free her, for the wala belongs to the one who frees.” Some meat was brought, and it was said, “This is from what was given as charity to Barirah.” He said, “It is charity for her and a gift for us.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave her a choice, and her husband was a free man.
