al-Sunan al-Kubra (al-Nasa'i) 4841

✧ The permissibility of eating birds.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو عَنْ صُهَيْبٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَامِرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَا مِنْ إِنْسَانٍ يَقْتُلُ عُصْفُورًا فَمَا فَوْقَهَا بِغَيْرِ حَقِّهَا إِلَّا سَأَلَهُ اللهُ عَنْهَا» قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَا حَقُّهَا؟ قَالَ «يَذْبَحُهَا فَيَأْكُلُهَا وَلَا يَقْطَعُ رَأْسَهَا فَيَرْمِي بِهَا»

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "No person kills a sparrow or anything larger than it without its right except that Allah will ask him about it." It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is its right?" He said, "That he slaughters it and eats it, and does not cut off its head and throw it away."
