✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Horses are for a man a reward, for another a cover, and upon another a burden. As for the one for whom they are a reward, he is a man who ties them in the path of Allah and lengthens their rope in a meadow or garden. Whatever they eat during that time from the meadow or garden, he has good deeds for it. And if they break their rope and run one or two elevations, their hoofprints and their droppings are good deeds for him. And if they pass by a river and drink from it, even if he did not intend to water them, that is good deeds for him. So they are a reward for him. A man who ties them to be self-sufficient and to refrain from asking, and does not forget the right of Allah regarding their necks and backs, they are a cover for him. And a man who ties them out of pride, showing off, and enmity against the people of Islam, they are a burden upon him.” The Prophet ﷺ was asked about donkeys, and he said, “Nothing has been revealed to me about them except this comprehensive, unique verse: ‘So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it’ [al-Zalzalah: 8].”
