أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَبِي مُوسَى عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُفْتِي بِالْمُتْعَةِ فَقَالَ

لَهُ رَجُلٌ رُوَيْدَكَ بِبَعْضِ فُتْيَاكَ فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي مَا أَحْدَثَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي النُّسُكِ بَعْدُ حَتَّى لَقِيتُهُ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ «قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ فَعَلَهُ وَلَكِنْ كَرِهْتُ أَنْ يَظَلُّوا مُعَرِّسِينَ بِهِنَّ فِي الْأَرَاكِ ثُمَّ يَرُوحُوا فِي الْحَجِّ تَقْطُرُ رُءُوسُهُمْ»

✧ A man said to him: 'Slow down with some of your fatwās, for you do not know what the Commander of the Believers has introduced into the rites after you.' So I met him and asked him. ʿUmar said: 'I know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did it, but I disliked that they should remain camped with their wives among the arāk trees and then go for Ḥajj with their heads dripping.'
