al-Sunan al-Kubra (al-Nasa'i) 2857

✧ The beginning of fasting on the day of Ashura, and the mention of the variation of the narrators' words in it.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ قَالَ دَخَلَ الْأَشْعَثُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ عَلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ وَهُوَ يَطْعَمُ قَالَ ادْنُهْ فَاطْعَمْ قَالَ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ فَقَالَ

عَبْدُ اللهِ «كَانَ هَذَا الْيَوْمُ نَصُومُهُ قَبْلَ رَمَضَانَ فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَطْعَمَ فَادْنُه فَاطْعَمْ»

✧ Abdullah said: "This day we used to fast before Ramadan. If you wish to eat, then come and eat."
