✧ Fasting ten days of the month and the differences in wording among the narrators regarding the report of Abu al-Abbas from Abdullah bin Amr about it.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ غُنْدَرٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ

قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اقْرَأِ الْقُرْآنَ فِي شَهْرٍ» قُلْتُ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَطْلُبُ إِلَيْهِ حَتَّى قَالَ «فِي خَمْسَةِ أَيَّامٍ» وَقَالَ «صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ» قُلْتُ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَطْلُبُ إِلَيْهِ حَتَّى قَالَ لِي «صُمْ أَحَبَّ الصِّيَامِ إِلَى اللهِ صَوْمَ دَاوُدَ كَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: "Recite the Quran in a month." I said, "I can do more than that." He said, "I kept asking him until he said, 'In five days.'" And he said, "Fast three days of every month." I said, "I can do more than that." He said, "I kept asking him until he said to me, 'Fast the most beloved fasting to Allah, the fast of Dawud: he used to fast one day and break his fast the next day.'"
