al-Sunan al-Kubra (al-Nasa'i) 2439

✧ Completion of the month of Sha'ban thirty times when it is cloudy and mention of the discrepancies of the narrators' words regarding the report of Abu Hurayrah in it.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَرْقَاءُ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَةِ الْهِلَالِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْدُرُوا ثَلَاثِينَ»

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Muḥammad b. ʿAbdullāh b. Yazīd from my father
  2. And Rqāʾ
  3. Shuʿbah
  4. Muḥammad b. Ziyād
  5. Abū Hurayrah

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Fast when you see the crescent, and break your fast when you see it. If it is cloudy for you, then estimate it as thirty.”
