أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو دَاودَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ شُعْبَةَ يَقُولُ السَّاعَةَ يَخْرُجُ السَّاعَةَ يَخْرُجُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ

«كُنْتُ فِي الصَّفِّ الثَّانِي يَوْمَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى النَّجَاشِيِّ» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ اسْمُهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ تَدْرُسَ مَكِّيٌّ كَانَ شُعْبَةُ يُسِيءُ الرَّأْيِ فِيهِ وَأَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ مِنَ الْحُفَّاظِ رَوَى عَنْهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ وَأَيُّوبُ وَمَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ فَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرًا فَهُوَ صَحِيحٌ وَكَانَ يُدَلِّسُ وَهُوَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْنَا فِي جَابِرٍ مِنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ وَأَبُو سُفْيَانَ هَذَا اسْمُهُ طَلْحَةُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ وَبِاللهِ التَّوْفِيقُ

✧ "I was in the second row on the day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed over the Negus." Abu Abd al-Rahman said: Abu al-Zubayr's name is Muhammad b. Muslim b. Tadrus, a Makkan. Shu'bah had a poor opinion of him, but Abu al-Zubayr is among the memorizers. Yahya b. Sa'id al-Ansari, Ayyub, and Malik b. Anas narrated from him. When he says "I heard Jabir," it is authentic. He used to practice tadlis. He is more beloved to us in [narrations from] Jabir than Abu Sufyan. And this Abu Sufyan's name is Talhah b. Nafi'. And success is by Allah.
