أَخْبَرَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ مُرَّ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقَالَ

نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ «وَجَبَتْ» وَمُرَّ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ «وَجَبَتْ» فَقَالَ عُمَرُ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي مُرَّ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقُلْتَ وَجَبَتْ وَمُرَّ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقُلْتَ وَجَبَتْ فَقَالَ «مَنْ أَثْنَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ خَيْرًا وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ وَمَنْ أَثْنَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ شَرًّا وَجَبَتْ لَهُ النَّارُ أَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ»

Translation

✧ The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, "It is affirmed." A funeral passed by and it was spoken of ill, so the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, "It is affirmed." Umar said, "May my father and mother be your ransom. A funeral passed and it was spoken of well, and you said 'It is affirmed.' And a funeral passed and it was spoken of ill, and you said 'It is affirmed.'" He said, "Whoever you speak well of, Paradise is affirmed for him, and whoever you speak ill of, the Fire is affirmed for him. You are Allah's witnesses on earth."
