✧ The believer's respite in death

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَلْحَلَةَ عَنْ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ بْنِ رِبْعِيٍّ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُحَدِّثُ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مُرَّ عَلَيْهِ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَقَالَ «مُسْتَرِيحٌ وَمُسْتَرَاحٌ مِنْهُ» فَقَالُوا وَمَا الْمُسْتَرِيحُ وَالْمُسْتَرَاحُ مِنْهُ؟ قَالَ «الْعَبْدُ الْمُؤْمِنُ يَسْتَرِيحُ مِنْ نَصَبِ الدُّنْيَا وَأَذَاهَا وَالْعَبْدُ الْفَاجِرُ يَسْتَرِيحُ مِنْهُ الْعِبَادُ وَالْبِلَادُ وَالشَّجَرُ وَالدَّوَابُّ»

Translation

✧ A funeral procession passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "One who is at rest and one from whom rest is taken." They said, "What is the one at rest and the one from whom rest is taken?" He said, "The believing servant rests from the toil and harm of the world, and from the wicked servant rest the people, the land, the trees, and the animals."
