✧ The command to perform ritual washing after coming into contact with a polytheist

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ هُوَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ وَأَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ نَاجِيَةَ بْنِ كَعْبٍ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ

لَمَّا مَاتَ أَبُو طَالِبٍ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ إِنَّ عَمَّكَ الشَّيْخَ الضَّالَّ قَدْ مَاتَ قَالَ اذْهَبْ فَوَارِهِ قُلْتُ إِنَّهُ مَاتَ مُشْرِكًا قَالَ اذْهَبْ فَوَارِهِ وَلَا تُحَدِّثْ شَيْئًا حَتَّى تَأْتِيَنِي « فَوَارَيْتُهُ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ قَدْ وَارَيْتُهُ فَأَمَرَنِي فَاغْتَسَلْتُ»

✧ When Abu Talib died, I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said to him, "Your uncle, the misguided old man, has died." He said, "Go and bury him." I said, "He died a polytheist." He said, "Go and bury him, and do not say anything until you come to me." So I buried him, then came to him and said, "I have buried him." He commanded me, so I performed a ritual bath.
