أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ
«كُنَّا يَوْمَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ أَلْفًا وَأَرْبَعَمِائَةٍ فَبَايَعْنَاهُ وَعُمَرُ آخِذٌ بِيَدِهِ تَحْتَ الشَّجَرَةِ وَهِيَ سَمُرَةٌ وَقَدْ بَايَعْنَاهُ عَلَى أَلَّا نَفِرَّ وَلَمْ نُبَايِعْهُ عَلَى الْمَوْتِ»

✧ “On the day of al-Hudaybiyyah we were one thousand four hundred, and we pledged allegiance to him while ʿUmar was holding his hand under the tree, which was a samurah tree. We pledged allegiance to him that we would not flee, and we did not pledge allegiance for death.”
