أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ
نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ وَمَا نَعْلَمُ فِي أَيِّ شَيْءٍ نَزَلَتْ {ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عِنْدَ رَبِّكُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ} [الزمر 31] قُلْنَا مَنْ نُخَاصِمُ لَيْسَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ خُصُومَةٌ؟ حَتَّى وَقَعَتِ الْفِتْنَةُ قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ «هَذَا الَّذِي وَعَدَنَا رَبُّنَا أَنْ نَخْتَصِمَ فِيهِ»
Translation

✧ This verse was revealed, and we do not know about what it was revealed: {Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, will dispute before your Lord} [al-Zumar 31]. We said, ‘Whom would we dispute with? There is no dispute between us and the People of the Book.’ Until the civil strife occurred. Ibn Umar said, ‘This is what our Lord promised us that we would dispute about.’”
