أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

كُنْتُ أَغَارُ عَلَى اللَّاتِي وَهَبْنَ أَنْفُسَهُنَّ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَقُولُ أَوَتَهَبُ الْمَرْأَةُ نَفْسَهَا؟ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَعَالَى {تُرْجِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ مِنْهُنَّ وَتُؤْوِي إِلَيْكَ مَنْ تَشَاءُ} [الأحزاب 51] قُلْتُ وَاللهِ مَا أَرَى رَبَّكَ إِلَّا يُسَارِعُ لَكَ فِي هَوَاكَ

Translation

✧ I used to feel jealous of those who gave themselves to the Prophet ﷺ and say: "Does a woman offer herself?" So Allah, exalted is He, sent down: {You may defer whom you will of them or receive to yourself whom you will} [al-Ahzab: 51]. I said: "By Allah, I see your Lord only hastens to fulfill your desire."
