أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ

سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَيُّ الذَّنْبِ أَكْبَرُ؟ قَالَ «أَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِلَّهِ نِدًّا وَهُوَ خَلَقَكَ» قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَيُّ؟ قَالَ «أَنْ تَقْتُلَ وَلَدَكَ أَنْ يَطْعَمَ مَعَكَ» قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَيُّ؟ قَالَ «أَنْ تُزَانِيَ حَلِيلَةَ جَارِكَ» قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَصْدِيقَ ذَلِكَ {وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ وَلَا يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا يَزْنُونَ وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ يَلْقَ أَثَامًا} [الفرقان 68]

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "Which sin is greatest?" He said, "That you set up a rival to Allah when He created you." I said, "Then which?" He said, "That you kill your child lest he eat with you." I said, "Then which?" He said, "That you commit adultery with your neighbor's wife." Abdullah said, "Then Allah sent down confirmation of that: {And those who do not call upon another god with Allah, nor kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except by right, nor commit adultery; and whoever does that shall meet the penalty} [al-Furqan 68]."
