أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ سَأَلْنَا ابْنَ عُمَرَ أَيُفَرَّقُ بَيْنَ الْمُتَلَاعِنَيْنِ؟ قَالَ

سُبْحَانَ اللهِ نَعَمْ أَتَى رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ أَحَدُنَا يَرَى امْرَأَتَهُ عَلَى فَاحِشَةٍ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ؟ فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ فَقَالَ إِنِّي قَدِ ابْتُلِيتُ بِهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ هَذِهِ الْآيَاتِ مِنْ سُورَةِ النُّورِ وَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الرَّجُلَ فَشَهِدَ أَرْبَعَ شَهَادَاتٍ بِاللهِ إِنَّهُ لَمِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ وَالْخَامِسَةُ أَنَّ لَعْنَةَ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ ثُمَّ ثَنَّى بِالْمَرْأَةِ فَشَهِدَتْ أَرْبَعَ شَهَادَاتٍ بِاللهِ إِنَّهُ لَمِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ وَالْخَامِسَةُ أَنَّ غَضَبَ اللهِ عَلَيْهَا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ ثُمَّ فَرَّقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَهُمَا

Translation

✧ Glory be to Allah! Yes, a man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, what do you think if one of us sees his wife committing indecency, what should he do? He remained silent and did not answer him. Then he came to him and said: I have been afflicted by it, O Messenger of Allah. Then Allah revealed these verses from Surat al-Nūr. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called the man, and he testified four testimonies by Allah that he was among the truthful, and the fifth that the curse of Allah be upon him if he was among the liars. Then he called the woman, and she testified four testimonies by Allah that he was among the liars, and the fifth that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he was among the truthful. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ separated them.
