✧ I and this companion of mine disputed about the companion of Mūsā who asked for the way to meet him. Have you heard the Messenger of God ﷺ mention anything?” He said, “Yes, I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: While Mūsā was among a gathering of the Children of Israel, a man came to him and said, ‘Do you know anyone more knowledgeable than you?’ Mūsā ﷺ said, ‘No.’ Then God revealed to Mūsā, ‘Yes, Our servant Khiḍr.’ So Mūsā ﷺ asked for the way to meet him. God made the fish a sign for him, and it was said, ‘When you lose the fish, turn back, for you will meet him.’ Mūsā ﷺ followed the trace of the fish in the sea. Mūsā’s young companion said to Mūsā, {Did you see when we retired to the rock? Indeed I forgot the fish, and none made me forget it except Satan, that I should remember it} [al-Kahf: 63].” Mūsā ﷺ said, {That is what we were seeking. So they returned upon their tracks, retracing, and they found} [al-Kahf: 65] Khiḍr. Then what happened between the two of them is what God has recounted in His Book.
