أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنِي خُبَيْبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُعَلَّى قَالَ

مَرَّ بِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَدَعَانِي فَلَمْ آتِهِ قَالَ «مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَأْتِيَنِي؟» قُلْتُ إِنِّي كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي قَالَ أَلَمْ يَقُلِ اللهُ ﷻ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَجِيبُوا لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ لِمَا يُحْيِيكُمْ} [الأنفال 24] قَالَ «أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ أَفْضَلَ سُورَةٍ فِي الْقُرْآنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ أَخْرُجَ؟» فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ يَخْرُجُ ذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ هِيَ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنُ الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِي أُوتِيتُهُ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by me while I was in the mosque and called me, but I did not come to him. He said: “What prevented you from coming to me?” I said: I was praying. He said: Did not Allah, exalted is He, say: {O you who believe, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life} [al-Anfāl: 24]? Then he said: “Shall I not teach you the best surah in the Quran before I leave?” When he was about to leave, I reminded him of that. He said: “Al-ḥamdu lillāhi rabbi al-ʿālamīn (Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds). It is the seven oft-repeated verses and the great Quran that I was given.”
