أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى عَنْ خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ سَارَ إِلَى بَدْرٍ فَاسْتَشَارَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَأَشَارَ عَلَيْهِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ اسْتَشَارَ رَجُلًا فَأَشَارَ عَلَيْهِ عُمَرُ ثُمَّ اسْتَشَارَهُمْ فَقَالَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ إِيَّاكُمْ يُرِيدُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذًا لَا نَقُولُ كَمَا قَالَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ لِمُوسَى {فَاذْهَبْ أَنْتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَاتِلَا إِنَّا هَاهُنَا قَاعِدُونَ} [المائدة 24] وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ لَوْ ضَرَبْتَ كَبِدَنَا إِلَى بَرَكِ الْغِمَادِ لَاتَّبَعْنَاكَ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ traveled to Badr and consulted the Muslims. Abu Bakr gave him advice. Then he consulted a man, and 'Umar gave him advice. Then he consulted them, and the Ansar said, 'O community of Ansar, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intends you.' He said, 'Then we will not say as the Children of Israel said to Musa: {So go, you and your Lord, and fight; indeed we are sitting here} [al-Ma'idah: 24]. By the One who sent you with truth, if you struck our livers to Bark al-Ghimad, we would follow you.'
