أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ

سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَيُّ الذَّنْبِ أَعْظَمُ عِنْدَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «أَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِلَّهِ نِدًّا وَهُوَ خَلَقَكَ» قُلْتُ إِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَعَظِيمٌ قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَيُّ؟ قَالَ «ثُمَّ تَقْتُلُ وَلَدَكَ أَنْ يَطْعَمَ مَعَكَ» قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَيُّ؟ قَالَ «أَنْ تُزَانِيَ حَلِيلَةَ جَارِكَ»

✧ I asked the Prophet ﷺ: “Which sin is greatest in the sight of Allah?” He said: “That you set up a rival to Allah, while He created you.” I said: “That is indeed great.” I said: “Then which?” He said: “Then that you kill your child for fear that he may eat with you.” I said: “Then which?” He said: “That you commit adultery with the wife of your neighbor.”
