أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عِتْبَانُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ
أَنَّهُ عَمِيَ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ تَعَالَ فَخُطَّ لِي مَسْجِدًا فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَجَاءَ قَوْمُهُ وَتَغَيَّبَ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهُ مَالِكُ بْنُ الدُّخْشُمِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهُ وَإِنَّهُ يَقَعُونَ فِيهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ «أَلَيْسَ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللهِ؟» قَالُوا إِنَّمَا يَقُولُهَا مُتَعَوِّذًا قَالَ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَا يَقُولُهَا أَحَدٌ صَادِقًا إِلَّا حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْهِ النَّارُ»

✧ He became blind, so he sent to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: Come and mark out a mosque for me. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came, and his people came, and a man among them called Malik b. al-Dukhshum stayed away. They said: O Messenger of Allah, he is this and that, falling upon him. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Does he not testify that there is no god but Allah and that I am the messenger of Allah?' They said: He only says it seeking protection. He said: 'By the One in whose hand is my soul, no one says it truthfully except that the Fire is forbidden to him.'
