✧ The preferred time for seeking forgiveness

أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ فُضَيْلٍ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْأَغَرِّ أَبِي مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ
أَنَّهُمَا شَهِدَا بِهِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ عَلَيْهِمَا أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى يُمْهِلُ حَتَّى يَذْهَبَ ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلُ ثُمَّ يَهْبِطُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا فَيَقُولُ هَلْ مِنْ مُسْتَغْفِرٍ هَلْ مِنْ سَائِلٍ هَلْ مِنْ تَائِبٍ هَلْ مِنْ دَاعٍ حَتَّى يَطْلُعَ الْفَجْرُ
Translation

- Ibrāhīm b. Yaʿqūb > al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī > Fuḍayl > Manṣūr > Abū Isḥāq > al-Aghar Abū Muslim > Abū Hurayrah and Abū Saʿīd
✧ They both testified to this on the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I testify on their behalf that he said: "Allah, Blessed and Exalted, grants respite until the first third of the night has passed, then He descends to the lowest heaven and says: 'Is there any seeker of forgiveness? Is there any asker? Is there any repentant? Is there any supplicant?' until the dawn rises."
