أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ سَمِعْتُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ الْمُغِيرَةِ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بُرْدَةَ قَالَ
جَلَسْتُ إِلَى رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ يُعْجِبُنِي تَوَاضُعُهُ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ تُوبُوا إِلَى اللهِ وَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ فَإِنِّي أَتُوبُ إِلَى اللهِ وَأَسْتَغْفِرُهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ مِائَةِ مَرَّةٍ»

✧ I sat with a man from the Emigrants whose humility pleased me, and I heard him say: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'O people, repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness, for I repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness a hundred times every day or more than a hundred times.'
