✧ When a man is told, "May Allah forgive you, what does he say?

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسٍ
رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَكَلْتُ مَعَهُ فَقُلْتُ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «وَلَكَ» قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ أَسْتَغْفَرَ لَكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَلَكُمْ ثُمَّ تَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنْبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ} [محمد 19] ثُمَّ دُرْتُ حَتَّى صِرْتُ خَلْفَهُ ثُمَّ نَظَرْتُ إِلَى خَاتَمِ النُّبُوَّةِ

✧ I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and ate with him. I said: May Allah forgive you, O Messenger of Allah. He said: “And you.” I said to ‘Abdullah: Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ask forgiveness for you? He said: Yes, and for all of you. Then he recited this verse: {And ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women} [Muhammad 19]. Then I went around until I was behind him, and I looked at the seal of prophethood.
