حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ ؓ قَالَ:
كَانَ الرَّجُلُ يُطَلِّقُ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: لَعِبْتُ، وَيُعْتِقُ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: لَعِبْتُ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: وَلا تَتَّخِذُوا آيَاتِ اللهِ هُزُوًا الْآيَةَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: « مَنْ طَلَّقَ أَوْ عَتَقَ فَقَالَ: لَعِبْتُ فَلَيْسَ قَوْلُهُ بِشَيْءٍ يَقَعُ عَلَيْهِ وَيَلْزَمُهُ
Translation

✧ A man would divorce and then say, ‘I was joking,’ and would manumit and then say, ‘I was joking.’ So God, mighty and majestic is He, revealed: ‘And do not take the verses of God in jest’ [2:231], the verse. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ said: ‘Whoever divorces or manumits and then says, “I was joking,” his statement is of no effect; it takes effect upon him and is binding.’
