✧ We accompanied Jundub to the fort of al-Mukātab, and we said to him: Counsel us. He said: Hold to the Qurʾān, for it is the light of the dark night and the guidance of the day; so act upon it despite hardship and poverty. If trial befalls you, then put forward your wealth before your life; and if the trial surpasses that, then put forward your wealth and your life before your religion. For the deprived is the one deprived of his religion, and the robbed is the one robbed of his religion. Verily, there is no wealth that avails after which comes the Fire, and no poverty that impoverishes after which comes Paradise. The Fire’s prisoner is never released, and its poor are never enriched.
