✧ Definition of Islam and Iman

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَسْعَدَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ؓ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَانِيَةٌ، وَالْإِيمَانُ فِي الْقَلْبِ ثُمَّ يُشِيرُ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى صَدْرِهِ: التَّقْوَى هَاهُنَا، التَّقْوَى هَاهُنَا

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Abū Bakr
  2. Zayd b. al-Ḥubāb
  3. ʿAlī b. Masʿadah
  4. Qatādah
  5. Anas
  6. Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

✧ Islam is outward, and Iman is in the heart. Then he pointed with his hand to his chest: "Taqwa (God-consciousness) is here, taqwa is here."
