✧ Greeting the Disbelievers While Honoring the Elders Among Them

وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَسَّانُ بْنُ أَبِي يَحْيَى الْكِنْدِيُّ، عَنْ شَيْخٍ مِنْ كِنْدَةَ، قَالَ:
كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عِنْدَ عَلِيٍّ ؓ، فَأَتَاهُ أُسْقُفُّ نَجْرَانَ، فَأَوْسَعَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ: أَتُوسِعُ لِهَذَا النَّصْرَانِيِّ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ؟ فَقَالَ ؓ: « إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا إِذَا أَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَوْسَعَ لَهُمْ »

✧ We were sitting with Ali ؓ when the bishop of Najran came, and he made room for him. A man said to him, 'Do you make room for this Christian, O Commander of the Faithful?' He said, '«They used to make room for them when they came to the Messenger of God ﷺ.»'
